Rural Alternative Licensure Stipend

Stipend Information

The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Center for Rural Education and the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Department of Higher Education encourage talented individuals interested in teaching to enroll in an alternative licensure program and work in a rural or small rural school district in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. The Rural Alternative Licensure Stipend (RALS) provides recipients with up to $4,500 to pay for a variety of program-related costs (e.g. Alternative Licensure programs, PRAXIS, Alternative Licensure, Initial License, technology and travel related costs).

Application Requirements

  • Be employed in one of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s 146 rural or small rural school districts
  • Be enrolled in one of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s approved alternative licensure programs
  • Provide an Alternative Licensure or completed Statement of Assurance from the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Department of Education
  • Be committed to remain in a rural school district for a period of three years after receiving an alternative teaching licensure from CDE

Selection and Award Process

In the event that the number of applications exceeds the amount of available funding provided by ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s General Assembly, stipend recipients will be selected using a random lottery draw.
